East Coast–West Coast Burger Rivalry
Living on the west coast has never really appealed to me. I enjoy visiting Los Angeles, and San Francisco is the heart of learning. Over the years, being originally from the east coast, I turned down many fantastic opportunities because I could never see myself living on the west coast.
Whenever the topic of the best burger came up, Five Guys was my first choice. However, at some point, I wanted to know what the fuss was all about with In-N-Out Burger. My family and I decided to do a taste test during a trip to LA. Five Guys was the clear winner after trying the best of what In-N-Out Burger had to offer. The idea that anyone would choose In-N-Out Burger over Five Guys just confirmed my west coast bias. I tweeted something to the effect of; you folks are out just wrong about the best burger. A friend then texted me and asked, "Did you ask for animal style?" I replied that it wasn't on the menu. "You have to ask for it," he responded. I thought, of course, that was such a west coast thing, like a double-secret handshake or the LA bar; you don't know where it is unless you know where it is. I gave them a second chance and ordered a Double-Double animal style based on my friend's advice. I have to admit they have the best burgers anywhere, not even close.
